In a way, that's good news !
Mine was completely dead when I find it.
It came back alive after about 30 hours of work put into.
Do not worry for the 4kC and below being silent: no mechanical filters that 
could fail in there, only coils and passive parts.
After a complete cleanup, restoration and alignment, performance will be at par 
with any R-390A.
You only need a LOT of patience and the will to "resurrect" it.
And yes, it's a work of love !

Well, I tried it out tonight. Brought it up slow on my variac.

It plays pretty well using my Kiwa MAP. I also have a speaker hooked up, and 
the audio is very low - unless I turn the BFO on, then its very loud.

The Line Meter also doesn't move unless the BFO is on, and the filters below 
4KC are dead (little bit of static..).

So it's working, but needs some love. Might just be me, but it seemed a lot 
easier to tune in some SSB on 40m versus my 390A.
