experiment with new ways of doing documentation (I'm currently
planning on trying out Roxygen)

You might want to try the R-plugin for Eclipse which has full Roxygen support since yesterday's 0.7 release:

- appropriate highlighting of Roxygen comments and tags
- generate Roxygen templates from R function,
    class etc. definitions
- use content-assist for Roxygen editing
- make use of R CMD roxygen inside Eclipse
  (R CMD Tools)
