You were asked to report problems with translation to the appropriate translation team: see the section 'How to report a bug' of the FAQ.

For Brazilian Portuguese the translator listed is Fernando Henrique Ferraz P. da Rosa <fefer...@ime.usp.br>, not it seems far from you. The Brazilian Portuguese translations are drifting out of date, so he may appreciate offers of assistance.

In this case the word is spelled inconsistently in the translations so I am confident enough to make the change, but in general the R developers have outsourced language expertise to the translation teams.

The error message produced when the function name typed in the console is
misspelled in the Portuguese translation. This is not a new issue but as it is
around for sometime I've decided to report. As this is a frequent message when
beginners start using R, it gives an unfortunate bad impression on the overall
quality of the software which is excellent.

The actual message (with the translation error) is:

Erro: não foi posssível encontrar a função "functionname"

The correct message should be:

Erro: não foi possível encontrar a função "functionname"
