This feature seems to be a basic bug:
> 1=="1"
[1] TRUE
> as.numeric(1)=="1"
[1] TRUE
> as.numeric(1)==as.character("1")
[1] TRUE
isn't it necessary to distinguish beteen numbers and characters??
