Yes I've tried, but the only way I've succeded in building R for Windows is by following Brian Ripley's instructions (i.e. using the collection you mentioned) : http://www.stats.ox.ac.uk/pub/Rtools/ In MSYS, sh.exe and make.exe seem to behave differently from the Rtools versions, causing problems which I don't know how to solve.
