The R installation is fine on Windows XP, but when I started to open the R program, then it pops out this message: "R for Windows GUI front-end has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience....." The error signature is: AppName: rgui.exe AppVer: 1.71.30616.0 ModName: r.dll ModVer: 1.71.30616.0 Offset: 0002966e I have to say that I just bought a brand new Dell computer. Windows XP was just installed fresh. I installed other softwares and also update the video card driver from nvidia website. The model is dimension 8300. I checked the old messages on the R project. It seems one person also had a similar problem. Check the message with the subject "Rd] R for Windows GUI Front-End Problem (PR#3364)" However, I don't think somebody solved this problem. I also tried to install R1.7, I still have the same problems. I'm not sure the monitor is one cause of the problem since I'm using a high resolution 1600x1200 20inch LCD with DVI-D connector to the computer. However I want to mention that I used the R source code on the same computer but on the red hat linux 8.0 partition (note that my computer has dual boot systems). The R worked fine.
