Dear all, An application has been put forward for R to participate in Google Code-in. This is a Google's contest to introduce pre-university students (age 13-18) to the many kinds of contributions that make open source software development possible.
We are looking for possible mentors and ideas for tasks to be developed by the students. All the proposed tasks are available in this page: http://rwiki.sciviews.org/doku.php?id=developers:projects:gci2011&s=google%20code Possible tasks range from code development to translation of manual pages, GUIs, etc. A mailing list has been set up to discuss issues regarding this contest: http://groups.google.com/group/gci-r?hl=en If you are interested in participating in Google Code-In, please, join the mailing list to discuss your ideas and add your ideas to the wiki page. We are still waiting to know whether the R Foundation will be accepted as a participating institution but the tasks list will be taken into account when considering our application.
