A reasonable place to start would be to look at the packages recommended in the Machine Learning section of CRAN Task Views: http://cran.r-project.org/web/views/MachineLearning.html . You could also try to search the archive for this list which often recommend the same package (e.g. http://tolstoy.newcastle.edu.au/R/e2/help/07/06/18360.html).
