An alternate way to install is with R CMD INSTALL from the shell prompt. I
have done this in Linux without a problem. This should work on your OS as
well. See documentation for INSTALL (in "base"), or at,
http://rweb.stat.umn.edu/R/library/base/html/INSTALL.html
