When my first guess is right (you are using nlme),
you might want to take a look into the help pages for those plots, e.g.:
  ?plot.nfnGroupedData 
tells you it is using lattice, and you can look into these functions to
find it out:
 getS3method("plot", "nfnGroupedData")
