there is an increasing number of interesting books published recently and it is a matter of taste, which to read first. For a comprehensive understanding you probably should read more than one book. Below you find three exciting volumes of very different style.

To return to R-Help: I think it would be a nice idea to port some of the examples of Roughgarden's book to R.
