Dear ronggui, If memory serves me right, this is a relatively early presentation for sociologists of loglinear models for contingency tables (in which all the variables are dichotomous). You can fit such a model in R as a generalised linear model using glm() or via the loglin() function. The latter, which works by iterative proportional fitting, will be more similar in approach to what's in the Goodman paper (but both produce ML estimates).
