Suresh, Did you define a HOME environment variable for Emacs to use (as instructed in the installation instructions)? I observed that when the HOME variable is not defined (or points to a non-existent directory), Emacs will freeze as soon as one toggles from the Emacs window to another application and back to Emacs.
And of course, I should have written FSF Emacs in my original post, not FSG. Hope this helps!
