Thanks for the clarification. For a next release of Lattice, it would be helpful if you could add a blurb in the help page for densityplot explicitly stating that the vectors in a "~ a + b" situation must have the same length. While that is obvious for xyplot (a and b must have the same length as "x"), it isn't for densityplot. Thanks again for your speedy reply!
