I used the following configure and it worked./configure --prefix=/apps/R --enable-R-shlib --with-zlib --with-gnu-ld --with-tcltk --with-readline=no --disable-largefile --with-recommended-packages=yes
The make check and makecheck-all also worked. Thanks everyone for your help.
