If by "multivariate split" the OP meant splitting on combinations of covariates (instead of multi-way split on a single covariate at a time), there aren't that many methods published (AFAIK). All the ones I know about are in the cheminformatics area: RP-SA and generalizations/extensions of it. No R package I know of can do it.
