You're running out of room on the y-axis.  I don't
know how to cure it in general because I don't know
how to find the general height of the largest bin  but
this shows the problem. You need to extend the ylim.

histtst <-
  function(n = 100,...){

    x <- rnorm(n)
    hist(x, labels = TRUE, ylim=c(0,8))
    boxplot(x, horizontal = TRUE)
