Hi Michael: Many thanks! I should give that a try when I'm on the machine w/ these problems--looks like a way to clean my java env and also make sure I have all the software that's needed. Am waiting a while before upgrading to Lucid because of problems I've heard w/ R, though it seems you haven't had any.
