"comments on the suggestion" a) There are already howtos to install R (and packages, if they depend on external libraries) on various Unices and GNUlinux distributions (sects?) ... in R's wiki.
This is reason *not* to have a redundant list (reading the R's wiki and noticing what is (obsolete|unuseful|with errors|with a bad structure ) might be more pertinent). b) OTOH, once (ca 3 months ago), a poor debian/Ubu user had a NTFS partition, and his data in it and it was not automagically mounted, like in XP. I knew -and verified !!! - checked how to mount it on a Scientific Linux (a Red Hat derived sect), before explaining it (I suppose "mount" exists in Debian, does not it; it exists under BSD and Solaris, but is more complicated than GNU's one).... I have no time to find| copy'npaste the commentaries that arose .... That would be a reason (and quite a different one that linked with distributions/sects specificities) to have a mailing list (though this is a very trivial issue, which makes people duly upset fixing stupid mounts). --- En date de : Dim 11.7.10, [email protected] <[email protected]> a écrit : > De: [email protected] <[email protected]> > Objet: Re: [R-sig-Debian] "Graphics history" in UNIX --> "R" in Ubuntu > À: [email protected] > Date: Dimanche 11 juillet 2010, 18h21 > On 11-Jul-10 14:54:14, Dirk > Eddelbuettel wrote: > > [...] > > Hence it is not the place for conjectures about what > may or may not > > work sometimes or not on unnamed other Linux > distributions, or > > other / older Unix variants. > > > > Concrete, on-topic help with relevant details for > Debian or Ubuntu will > > always be appreciated.
