following the instructions shown here:

I used
sudo apt-get install r-baseto insall R on an Amazon EC2 server, but when I do
that I get an old cersion of R
> R.version.string
[1] "R version 2.12.1 (2010-12-16)"
Do you know how I can change this command so that it installs the latest
version?Also are the ubuntu version numbers exactly equivalent to their windows
version numbers?
In particular I want to ensure the package "parallel" is installed.
