Jim,
What version of Ubuntu are you using? Was this a fresh install or an
upgrade? This is the only report of this I have heard, so I need some
more information.

I've just installed r-base (several times!) using the instructions at

I've tried a few times, tried purging, and removing everything in
/etc/R and
/usr/lib/R
as suggested by Dirk,
and reinstalling but still get
$ R
/usr/bin/R: line 236: /usr/lib/R/etc/ldpaths: No such file or directory
R version 3.0.2 (2013-09-25) -- "Frisbee Sailing"
Copyright (C) 2013 The R Foundation for Statistical Computing
Platform: x86_64-pc-linux-gnu (64-bit)
and then cannot install packages.
I tried manually creating the file /etc/R/ldpaths and it got rid of the
error when loading R, but would still not install packages.
Something is not loading/installing correctly for latest version. Can
anyone help diagnose and fix?
Thanks a bunch,
J
