Hi John, This may be a better question for the R-SIG-Geo list. I'm pretty sure the answer will depend on the extent of your study area and identifying a projection system which can place spatial points as a grid over the study area. As I don't know your study area or extent it's hard to be more specific than that, but a quick google search turned up a similar question on stack overflow http://stackoverflow.com/questions/11853796/convert-longitude-latitude-coordinates-wgs-to-grid-with-equidistant-axes-in-g and a possibly function http://rss.acs.unt.edu/Rdoc/library/spsurvey/html/marinus.html. A good resource if you are not familiar is the R spatial task view http://cran.r-project.org/web/views/Spatial.html.
Hope that helps, Alex On Wed, Aug 28, 2013 at 4:00 AM, <r-sig-ecology-requ...@r-project.org>wrote: > Send R-sig-ecology mailing list submissions to > r-sig-ecology@r-project.org > > To subscribe or unsubscribe via the World Wide Web, visit > https://stat.ethz.ch/mailman/listinfo/r-sig-ecology > or, via email, send a message with subject or body 'help' to > r-sig-ecology-requ...@r-project.org > > You can reach the person managing the list at > r-sig-ecology-ow...@r-project.org > > When replying, please edit your Subject line so it is more specific > than "Re: Contents of R-sig-ecology digest..." > > > Today's Topics: > > 1. generating coordinates at equal geographical distances (john d) > > > ---------------------------------------------------------------------- > > Message: 1 > Date: Tue, 27 Aug 2013 10:48:31 -0300 > From: john d <dobzhan...@gmail.com> > To: r-sig-ecology@r-project.org > Subject: [R-sig-eco] generating coordinates at equal geographical > distances > Message-ID: > <CAMLNaBbRXiV+ZozH03zbA= > ca5rghnmmmvptzpdhtqg+h5ra...@mail.gmail.com> > Content-Type: text/plain > > Dear all, > > I need to generate coordinates that are equidistant, regardless of > latitude.
