I want to announce the release of the first version of the WPS to R Bridge
called WPS2R. The free WPS2R Bridge allows WPS programmers to use the WPS
Workbench (the Eclipse IDE) to write and run R code. For those who have yet
to hear about WPS, WPS is an aggressively priced SAS/Base alternative that
supports the SAS language and most of the SAS/Base Procedures. WPS runs on
the Windows and z/OS platforms. You can learn more about WPS by following
the links at the end of this message.

The WPS2R Bridge supports R code in-line with your WPS Code. There are two
macros that sandwich the R code, %RSTART and %RSTOP. Essentially, these two
macros act as demarcation points for the beginning and end points of your R
code and are responsible for routing the R output back to the WPS listing
window and WPS output window respectively. The WPS2R Bridge also allows you
to call R graphics and view them in the Graph Viewer window.

I have put together a short Flash based screencast that demonstrates the use
of the WPS2R Bridge and it can be found at:

WPS users can download the WPS2R Bridge from the downloads section of the
MineQuest website at www.minequest.com/downloads. The WPS2R Bridge is
specific to WPS and does not yet support the SAS environment.
