I have Komodo Edit running fine on my Mac. I love it. So last summer and
fall, I was recommending it to others.

The first person I advised to use Komodo was a Mac-loving colleague running
the latest Mac OS on a failry new machine, etc. After hours and hours of
frustration, including deleting and reinstalling everything we could find,
we never got Komodo+R to go. In fact, she had been using the JGR editor
before and now it fails, too. She is now stuck with using the internal R
editor--thanks to me.

I figured this was just some wacky anomaly, so in the fall I recommended it
to my class of 35 grad students, and even prepared a nice "How to install
Komodo Edit" guide that I pilot tested. Immediately, about 25% ran into all
kinds of problems, both on Macs and Windows. From the 75% who got it
running, some of them had trouble later on, including those that answered
"Yes" in a "Do you want to upgrade SciViews?" pop-up, only to find that
everything got messed up. I'd say that only 60% are now using it. The
unlucky 40% are mostly using the internal R editor.

Keep in mind that Komodo Edit is designed to work with many programming
languages. For me, the R interface is wonderful! But I no longer recommend
it, and I am certainly never going to "upgrade," unless my current set-up
fails.
