Thanks for your words, Simon. The beach ball kept on spinning around and around. I get no response from R. Not sure if it's slow or freezing. I think it's extremely slow.
The connection is very fast, it's usually less than 30 sec to install most packages on my Windows laptop. Same internet connection.
