Indeed, all I had to do is install R version 3.0.1 Patched (2013-09-02 r63805), and all was well.
I'm puzled why, at the time I upgraded to 3.0.1, tcltk wasn't installed. But that's now water under the bridge, and I don't care much for either hydrology or pontology.
