In general, homebrewers get to drink their own booze. (i.e., we don't support 
it.) 

However, for R itself, it is necessary for me to set CURL_CONFIG in order not 
to pick up the curl-config from MacPorts. You might want to check if you are 
running into the same issue in reverse.
