Hello, Regarding R with XQuartz on Mac--I found one reference claiming that after upgrading to MacOS 10.15 Catalina, users may be required to re-install XQuartz. The MacOS Catalina installer moves/quarantines prior XQuartz installations to a folder called "Relocated Items", which may disrupt programs linking to XQuartz and expecting to find it in the old location:
