I noticed today that the R binaries from CRAN have a new directory for each new release, such that we have /Library/Frameworks/R.framework/Versions/2.2 with /Library/Frameworks/R.framework/Resources being a symlink to /Library/Frameworks/R.framework/Version/Current
For obvious reasons (saving one's old installation) this is a good idea.
