Please start R as follows and send me the output: DYLD_PRINT_LIBRARIES=1 R (you can just direct it to a file like 2> /tmp/foo >&2 but then you'll have to work "blind") Did you install the gcc 4.0.3 from the R 2.3.0 CRAN installer?
