Dear R (Mac) Developers:

I have quietly been following this list since I started to learn R. I
like R very much, even with (for me) its steep learning curve, and
will in future be able to publish analyses in my papers in R source
code.
And many many thanks to the team (lead by Simon, I understand)! A
great job carrying forward R on the Mac OS X platform! I am very
thankful, and I appreciate the great work, being a small Mac
developer myself.

My current request is as follows, and I apologize if it's already in
there or has been discussed before:
I typically develop in the R editor, and often need to look up
syntax. It would be very convenient if I could highlight a command
(e.g., "plot") and either with a hotkey or with the right mouse
button get help on this item. This would be markedly faster then
activating the R console and clicking into the search field top
right. Currently I use an AppleScript running within Butler,
activated by a hotkey as follows:
----
activate application "R" --not really necessary
delay 0.2 --yes, the delays are necessary, maybe even longer
depending on computer
tell application "System Events" to keystroke "c" using command down
--Copy
tell me to activate
set theCommand to "help(\"" & (the clipboard) & "\")"
tell application "R" to activate
delay 0.1
try
tell application "R" to cmd theCommand
end try
----

Thanks again for your amazing work,
best,
Michael
