Hard to say. My R installation is not standard -- I use R-devel (aka  
2.7.0)
compiled on the local machine (i.e. on Leopard) with gcc-4.2.1 and the
2.6.0 GUI (1.21 (4835)). My guess is that your R does not work
because it is compiled on Tiger and will look for dylibs that it cannot
find.
