On my machine -
> Sys.getenv("R_HOME")
                                     R_HOME
"/Library/Frameworks/R.framework/Resources"

Then open a terminal window:

$ ls /Library/Frameworks/R.framework/Resources/etc
i386            ppc             repositories
$ ls /Library/Frameworks/R.framework/Resources/etc/i386
Makeconf        Renviron        ldpaths

See help(Rprofile) for details of other files which, if present,
may over-ride the entries in this file.
