Hi folks,
I've perused the list archives, but alas...
Now that's a good one - it's the first hit in google and it has been
discussed in the archives for many times and is really hard to miss.
But I guess it's not surprising given that you also missed
"Updated R GUI (revision 4944) for R 2.6.0, 2.6.1 and 2.6.2. It is a
bugfix update to the R GUI supplied with R 2.6.2, most importantly
fixing a problem where hitting <ESC> has lead to an infinite loop."
on the CRAN download page posted just 5 days after the release you're
using.
I'm using R 2.6.2 with GUI 1.23
The current release version of R is 2.7.0, so you're using an old
version and we ask you explicitly to not report problems on old
versions, again you failed to read that as well ...

on a dual G5 Mac. Hitting <ESC> immediately after launch (and at
any other point besides) causes R to freeze (spinning beach ball of
death) with accompanying spike in processor activity.
Crash log upon force quitting indicates that R.app hangs on kernel
task AlignAssist, though I don't have the foggiest notion how this
relates.
Have not been able to reproduce this error using console R.
Any suggestions much appreciated.
Thanks for your time,
