Oooohhhh boy. This sounds too dangerous by half. And then
some. More dangerous than the case-insensitivity issue.

Out of the box, OS X filesystems are formatted as HFS+, which is
case
insensitive (but case preserving).
There is are variants of HFS+ that are case sensitive; Disk Utility
refers to them variant as "Mac OS Extended (Case Sensitive)" and
"Mac
OS Extended (Case Sensitive, journaled)".
If you'd like the file system to be case sensitive, you'll need to
format the drive that way.
