Mikhail,

Did you run the Disk Utility application and check the disk  
permissions as David had suggested? If not, please do so to be sure  
that this is not a source of the problem.

If that does not resolve anything, then I would recommend re- 
installing X11. For Tiger, you can do so from the Tiger install DVD or  
download it from here:

http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/x11formacosx.html

I would also be sure to run Software Update to be sure that you are up  
to date on all system components.

One final thought would be to remove and reinstall R, using the full  
disk image from a CRAN mirror. It may be possible that something about  
the R installation was corrupted.
