We want to help our higher ed colleagues assess R as an alternative to
increasingly expensive stat packages. To that end, I’m looking for a
handful of R experienced instructors who would be able and willing to
assess an installation of R in a virtual computing environment. Based on
feedback, we will enhance the installed image with additional resources,
documentation, use cases and other information useful to those using R.
We will provide free access to several instances of R running on Linux to
support this assessment phase.

We ultimately will provide a low-cost service for institutions wishing to
use R regularly in teaching and research.

Longsight provides open source services to higher education. Our new *Open
vLAB *service (http://www.longsight.com/files/vlab.pdf) uses the Apache
Virtual Computing Lab software to allow faculty and students to access
applications such as R from any location at any time using standard remote
desktop protocols.

Please contact us as [email protected] or reply to me if you are
willing to help. Thank you very much.

                Scott
