Eh. They work if people use them. You have to add them to your own calendar
and then have them turned on, in your own calendar.
Most people aren't as digital as we are.

Google Calendar is a thing of great promise that doesn't deliver yet as well
as it might (unless you're using Apple iCalendar on Leopard or Mozilla
Sunbird, and aren't afraid of getting your digital hands a little dirty).
For example, there doesn't seem to be a straightforward way* to
get it to give out with an iCal feed, which would make it really convenient
for integrating with the website. (If it did, we could create items on the
Google calendar and have them automagically create stories on the
website, to which we could attach reports, powerpoints, photos of people
holding up forked-fingers behind Nancy's head...).

*There's almost always a way to get from one standards-compliant web
services interface (e.g., CalDAV from/to Google Calendar) to another (the
simpler iCal as a mere feed), but it usually seems to involve Ruby
scripting. I have a book on that. One of these days I'll actually start
working through it....
