With respect to the Hugo Nominees, note that our own Nancy Kress is nominated for best novella, for "The Erdmann Nexus". "26 Monkeys, Also the Abyss" by Kij Johnson, a wonderful Nebula nominee for best short story, is also nominated for a Hugo. "The Ray-Gun:A Love Story" by James Alan Gardner, is nominated for best novellete.
Not that I'd tip my votes before our extremely un-official Hugo vote, but these stories are freakin' AWESOME.. These and many other terrific stories are available for FREE from the links below, both in electronic print and audio. Take advantage of this and spent a few highly enjoyable evenings reading or listening. We'll discuss the stories and take our own vote at the July 7 R-SPEC meeting. Also, at our next meeting, we'll start a new tradition. At the end of each meeting, we'll take a few minutes for anyone that would like to read aloud a few minutes of spec fic that they particularly love.
