Whenever I've looked into anything like this in the past, it ended up being
a piecework scheme, like envelope stuffing (and I assume that's what Steve
was alluding to). Yes, it is broadly possible to make money on these
schemes. Hardly anybody does.
Honestly, I don't want to discuss the particular scheme; it does occur to
me, though, that you could write a story about a future in which society
essentially functions on such a basis. I don't foresee myself writing such a
story at this time, but I think someone might be able to make something
interesting out of it.
