Here's a start to get into the SpecLit pirate mo[o]de, from the 2009-11-26 escape pod: "Pirate Solutions" http://escapepod.org/2009/11/26/ep226-pirate-solutions/
To para a phrase, I liked a lot of things about this story, but I didn't like the story very much. Doctorow's latest (I think), another YA novel called _For the Win_, sounds like it might also be appropriate mode music: A group of geographically distributed kids take over a virtual realm from its evil masters (Coca Cola, as it happens). And last but not least, Terry Gilliam's shot across the cinematic bows of the western world, "The Crimson Permanent Assurance".
