Top 100 lists always seem to me to end up heavily weighted toward the
present, this being no exception -- I'd guess at least a third were
published in the last 20 years.

Some surprises that we might miss as 'insiders.' E.g., books like *Wicked*and
*Jonathan Strange...* were published into mainstream markets. (I have a copy
of the latter on my shelf that I haven't gotten around to reading yet...one
of these days...)
