As part of the progression of ratings-based handicapping, and in
conjunction with the regional programming groups, a small number of
races have been programmed during the June and July period based on
rating bands.
The first of these meetings will be run on Thursday at Hawke's Bay
and is open to all horses with a rating up to and including 83.
This will accommodate the two win horse, out of form three win horse
and struggling four win horse.
Care has been taken to programme races for horses that sit above this
benchmark at meetings either side of these.
Other meetings that will conduct races of this nature include
Avondale on June 15, New Plymouth on June 23, Te Rapa on June 29,
Waverley (at Wanganui) on July 7, Counties on July 17, Paeroa on July
27 and Wanganui on July 28. These races will be run over varying
distances.
The NZTR Board will consider in the near future a proposal to run
significantly more of these meetings in the new season.
