Close it down completely -- sell the land, upgrade Otaki and shift there.  Trainers aren't based within cooee of Trentham are they Klaus?  So why make them travel miles to a track that's dodgy nine months of the year?

Hi2All,

The track was discussed last night at a Wellington Racing Club function.

They actually have done a lot of work with the Turf Institute and to install
proper drainage and sanding it (similar to Te Rapa) would cost about
$600,000. The Club does not have that amount of money and the Chairman is
seeking funds at present before it goes out to tender. His preferred funding
arrangement would be that via NZTR. Let's hope he can get some funds out of
their (huge) coffers very soon!

You are right, Peter, the track would need to be closed down for 6 months.
Doing it in smaller stages is not an option. And believe it or not, as part
of this upgrade a proper watering system will be installed!

Up till a couple of days ago Wellington had only about 11mm or rain and I
was surprised how heavy it was. Karen Zimmerman was disgusted when I spoke
with her at the end of the day. Had this track been properly drained, then
the condition would have been on the Easy side of Soft.

Regards, Klaus
