However, I just upgraded from MySQL 5.5 --> MariaDB 10.3 and the venerable mod_auth_mysql (which hasn't been updated since 2003) no longer works. I looked in RAdmin/Goodies, but I can't find anything that looks like it will work.

I suppose I should just try to use mod_authn_dbd instead?

Looks like this is what RHEL 7 release notes recommend too:

https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-us/red_hat_enterprise_linux/7/html/system_administrators_guide/ch-web_servers

If you search for mod_auth_mysql (or mod_auth_pgsql), they both were removed and mod_authn_dbd is noted to work with Apache 2.4

Not related to SQL, but looks like mod_authz_ldap has been respectively replaced with mod_authnz_ldap.

Thanks,
Heikki
