I am predicting the economy will still be in the doldrums in 2012, especially if aggressive budget balancing measures are put in place that reduces the fiscal stimulus. There isn't a whole lot more that the fed can do with money supply stimulus, so the fiscal stimulus is still important to jump start the economy. Perhaps a shrinking military budget can allow some budget balancing without excessively putting the brakes on the economy, but even a shrinking military will slow things down a bit.
I am a fan of small government, but it will take a while to get there. Following an aggressive republican mantra about reducing the deficit will pretty much insure continuing hard times 2 yrs from now. Interesting situation if the economy is still in the doldrums in 2012, BOTH the Reps and Dems would share the blame --presuming a GOP House-- since the House is where $$$ are voted on. I'll give odds of 2:1 that we see an anti-Republican backlash from voters in 2012.
