At the primary school where I teach, we have a Christmas tree decorated in the main hallway. On Friday all the kids went to see a Christmas play put on by the local high school. We have a few Muslims at the school and one little boy in Grade 1 was crying afterwards. I asked him what was wrong and he said, "All the other kids have fun and get presents from Santa and I never get anything!" I replied, "But you're Muslim and you don't celebrate Christmas." He said, "I know, but it's not fair!" What else could I say? My heart went out to him. Depending on how his parents handle it, I can only imagine him growing up and resenting us who do celebrate. He may grow up supremacist, thinking he is better than us and all because he wasn't allowed to participate in Christmas celebrations. Very sad!
