The 'iSoul' Was God's Greatest Invention

Man in his creativity produced the iMac, iPod, iPhone, and iPad. God in
His creativity produced the "iSoul." "The Lord God formed the man from the
dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the
man became a living being." (Genesis 2:7) God created man with an immortal
soul, or what I am calling an "iSoul" for the purpose of this article. As
C.S. Lewis said, "You don't have a soul. You are a soul. You have a body."

People often say, "I know I am getting older, but I don't feel any older. I
feel like I did when I was 21." The reason we feel this way is because our
soul doesn't age. The "real you" is not getting any older. Immortal beings
don't get "older." That is why angels don't get older either. They too
became immortal beings the moment God created them.
Have you come to terms with this doctrine of the immortal soul? Here are
some more insights from C.S. Lewis: "Christianity asserts that every
individual human being is going to live for ever, and this must be either true
or
false. Now there are a good many things which would not be worth bothering
about if I were going to live only seventy years, but which I had better
bother about very seriously if I am going to live for ever."
It is a fatal approach for a person to invest all their time on earth
chasing after wealth and material possessions at the expense of their soul.
When
they die, they leave all of it behind. Jesus said, "What good is it for a
man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul? Or what can a man give
in exchange for his soul." (Mark 8:36,37) Many wealthy people in this life
find themselves poor and in prison in the next life, just like the rich man
in Luke 16 discovered firsthand.
Do you consider yourself to be a wise person? "He who gets wisdom loves his
own soul." (Proverbs 19:8) If you don't love your soul, you lack wisdom.
The Holy Scriptures "are able to make you wise for salvation through faith
in Christ Jesus." (2 Timothy 3:15) You may be wise in your career. You may
be wise in your relationships. You may even be wise in your finances. But
are you wise for salvation?
The closer you are to God, the more you will desire to have the needs of
your soul met by Him and Him alone. You will experience the same thing as the
Psalmist: "My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and
meet with God?" (Psalm 42:2) "My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation
comes from Him." (Psalm 62:1)

Some people have spent more time thinking about UFO's than focusing upon
their soul. Did you know the Bible actually speaks about aliens? Well, not in
the way you might think. God's Word says to Christians, "Dear friends, I
urge you, as aliens and strangers in the world, to abstain from sinful
desires, which war against your soul." (1 Peter 2:11) In other words, sin
leads
us to harm our soul and to live in denial regarding the next world.
Your real home is where you will spend eternity. That's why the Bible says
believers are "aliens" or foreigners in this world. C.S. Lewis said, "If we
find ourselves with a desire that nothing in this world can satisfy, the
most probable explanation is that we were made for another world."
Believers are told over and over again in the Bible to keep trusting Jesus.
Why? Because believers in Christ "are receiving the goal of your faith,
the salvation of your souls." (1 Peter 1:9) If man had not infected the
original version of the "iSoul" with his "sin virus," there would have been no
need for Jesus to come and fix the mess we made for ourselves. "For you were
like sheep going astray, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and
Overseer of your souls." (1 Peter 2:25) Without Jesus, everyone would be
doomed forever.
There are many ways to destroy an iPhone or an iPod if you are determined
to smash it into bits. In contrast, there is no way to make your immortal
soul cease to exist. It is impossible to do. You could kill yourself, but
that won't do it. You could pray that your soul stops being eternal, but that
won't do it either. Whether you believe it or not, your "iSoul" is going to
exist in heaven or in hell throughout eternity.
This may be the most you have thought about your soul in a long time. In
reality, you and I really don't know what "a long time" is until we get "on
the other side" where there is no coming back and where no one gets a
"do-over." Many people live their days like a little child who can only
envision
today at the amusement park, or this moment in front of a video game.
If you have been childlike in regards to your soul, then isn't it time to
"grow up" so that you will be able to "go up" when your earthly body dies?
Do you realize how many people would give anything to come back to their
previous life on earth for just one more opportunity to get it right?
If these thoughts do not prompt any interest for the well-being of your
soul, you are in grave danger of reaching the point of no return. "There is a
way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death." (Proverbs
14:12) If you are not interested in caring for your soul in this life,
then Jesus won't be interested in caring for your soul in the next life.
Only God could have invented your "iSoul." Only you can ignore it as though
it's just some outdated gizmo or gadget.
