>From August 5 – September 9 in our Community Hour, Paul Barnes former
Senior Pastor of the 3600 member Grace Chapel will be joining us for a study
of
his new book, The Radical Center: Understanding the New Christian
ReFormation. The church of Jesus Christ is going through a season of profound
change. Many Americans view Christians with hostility, resentment and disdain
feeling that the church is anti-homosexual, judgmental, hypocritical, old
fashioned, too political, out of touch with reality, insensitive to the needs
of people, and boring. A new ReFormation is underway and with it,
fundamental systemic changes in how our faith will be practiced and understood
by
future generations. Some of the topics explored will be: understanding how
and why Fundamentalism, Evangelicalism and the Charismatic movement
developed and why they are leaving such a bad taste in the mouths of many
non-churched Americans; looking at how the Bible will be understood in the new
ReFormation—a view which will take the Bible seriously and authoritatively but
not literally; exploring the issue of whether God will really send billions
of people to hell just because they haven't believed in Jesus Christ as
their personal savior, and how genuine community fits in to our life of faith.
There will be a lot of discussion around some very challenging ideas
