Hasbro, the maker of the popular board game, Monopoly, wants to replace
the old-shoe token.
People with an interest can vote on a replacement token at a Facebook
site.  The choices
are pictured above, a cat, a robot, a guitar, a helicopter, or a diamond
ring.
.
This is unnecessary. The old shoe should not be replaced, it symbolizes
hard times
in people's past --or for some of us it represents Adlai Stevenson. He
used a
shoe with a hole in it to symbolize his political views.
.
The new choices are just fine. What does it cost to manufacture a token ?
Five cents
would seem about right. A new Monopoly game costs maybe $ 20, cheaper at
some stores
Simply add the new choices, and in the process add some value to the game,
more
sales appeal. Grand total investment, 25 cents.
.
While Hasbro is at it, add maybe ten other tokens to bring the total to
twenty.
Sell the expanded-choice set for a couple of dollars more as a premium
game set.
Suggestions :
.
( 1 )   A duck-billed platypus
( 2 )   Patton tank
( 3 )   aircraft carrier
( 4 )   Tyrannosaurus Rex
( 5 )   space satellite
( 6 )   desktop computer monitor w/  miniature keyboard
( 7 )   cute little rabbit
( 8 )   poodle
( 9 )   macaw
( 10 ) horse
.
For the premium set issue special new Monopoly money with pictures on the
notes.
$ 1.......Martha Washington
$ 5.......Sequoyah
$ 10.....Teddy Roosevelt
$ 20.....Sojourner Truth
$ 50.....H.L. Mencken
$ 100...Emperor Asoka
$ 500...J.S. Bach
.
One other change for the premium game :
Since Hasbro has a new diamond ring token in the works, and since Luxury
Tax
can be taken care of with a Chance or Community Chest card, substitute
a Political Lobbyist space where a player "donates" money to a political
cause in consideration of influencing public policy. This would add
a touch of realism to the game.
